Trending beauty terms for 2017 has revealed that so far this year, 'masking' has been the most searched skin care trend, confirming the rising global enthusiasm for face masks.
Masking has an international popularity due to the original Korean beauty trend of the sheet masks. Facial masks are now so popular that we are seeing the "next generation" of a more sophisticated mask. Oil masks, in shower masks, double layer masks, 24k gold masks, bright colored masks and other variations are being seen.
According to Google, Japan has also been instrumental in the rise of masking as a dominant international trend. They are seeing the next level of masks for the legs, cuticles, hands and feet, according to a recent Glamour report.
Google also stated that masking is popular and trending with the older generations as well. To this, Mintel, a leading market research firm, has reported that there is room for more sheet mask and facial care brands to offer more premium innovations and novel formulations moving forward.
The firm notes that opportunities lie in creating products that are focused on multiple benefits like anti-ageing and anti acne, using stand out ingredients and novel colors and designs.
Spa Splurge is ahead of the curve on the masking trends and offers a wide range of collections with innovative formulas to get results. Our Black Lace Collagen Masks is designed to focus on multiple benefits for anti-ageing, hydration and calming redness in skin.

“You are what you eat.” Okay, so you’ve heard that saying a thousand times throughout your life, however, it still holds true for overall health and wellness - including skin care! “Increasingly, studies are finding links between certain nutrients and wrinkle reduction, radiance, and acne prevention,” states David Bank, MD, a dermatologist in New York. Here are the top 10 foods that promote healthier skin which can easily be incorporated into your diet.
Chocolate: According to Dr. Bank, the cocoa in chocolate hydrates your skin, making it firmer and more supple. In addition, “Dark chocolate contains high levels of flavonols, a potent type of antioxidant,” adds Nicholas Perricone, MD, also a New York dermatologist. For maximum flavonol content, eat chocolate that’s at least 70% cacao. A couple squares a day should do the trick.
Yogurt: The protein from dairy products, such as yogurt, helps the skin become firmer and therefore more resistant to lines. Greek yogurt is especially beneficial since the protein content is often double that of regular yogurt. For smoother skin, just add a single serving of yogurt once a day to your diet.
Pomegranates: This miracle fruit is packed with polyphenol antioxidants which fight free radicals and regulate the skin’s blood flow, giving it rosiness. Eat one pomegranate or drink a couple glasses of pomegranate juice daily for healthier skin.
Walnuts: “Walnuts contain omega-3 essential fatty acids, which can improve skin’s elasticity,” Dr. Bank says. They are also loaded with copper (a mineral that boosts collagen production), so snack on a handful of walnuts each day for a smoother complexion.
Peppers: “Women who eat green and yellow vegetables regularly tend to have fewer wrinkles, especially around the eyes,” states Jessica Wu, MD, a dermatologist in Los Angeles. Studies have also found that carotenoids (the antioxidants in yellow and orange veggies) can decrease the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Two cups of peppers daily will go a long way for your skin.
Sunflower Seeds: These little guys are loaded with vitamin E and keep your skin supple by protecting its top layers from the sun. Incorporate about a handful into your diet everyday.
Kidney Beans: Studies indicate a correlation between blemishes and low zinc levels. Because kidney beans are high in zinc, by eating them often, you will benefit from zinc’s many healing properties. One 4-ounce serving a few times a week is a great way to promote healthy skin.
Soy: By adding one cup of soy milk or a handful of edamame a day to your diet, you may get a clearer complexion. “Soy contains minerals and proteins that have been shown to reduce hyperpigmentation,” Dr. Bank says.
Steel-Cut Oatmeal: Oats are very healing to the skin, especially steel-cut oats which are less processed than other varieties and contain more vitamins. “Plus, it takes longer to break down in your body, which helps keep your blood sugar stable. This is important because studies found that spiked blood sugar elevates your body’s level of androgens, hormones than can contribute to wrinkles,” states Dr. Wu.
Green Tea: Loaded with antioxidants, green tea is an excellent product proven to reduce redness and inflammation. Drink one cup a day for a balanced complexion.
