All across social media we're witnessing treatments like lip masks, microneedling, and lip peels!  These are just some of the services that salons and spas are offering to enhance your pout and you can even take advantage of these treatments in the comfort of your home!

Lip Masks

When you're suffering from dry, cracked, plump-less lips and fine lines; turn to lip masks!  Lip masks are a fantastic solution to these concerns as they have nourishing, softening, collagen-stimulating ingredients. When worn continuously, lip masks will leave your pout plump and have a much softer appearance with fewer lines!

Microneedling is a perfect solution when your concerns are deep lines and creases and expression lines. Microneedling is performed by tiny needles that are rolled across the skin with a dermaroller to slightly injure the skin to produce collagen and followed by a serum to suit your needs.  Don't fret!  The at home process is known for zero to minimal pain!  For a professional treatment, you will be numbed before hand (especially when using a deeper needle!)

When it comes to moderate skin aging and discoloration, lip peels are your go to! Different from the traditional chemical peel, there is little trauma to skins surface as the treatment works under the surface layers of your skin! The results are gradual. Top 10 Best Foods for Healthy Skin

“You are what you eat.” Okay, so you’ve heard that saying a thousand times throughout your life, however, it still holds true for overall health and wellness - including skin care! “Increasingly, studies are finding links between certain nutrients and wrinkle reduction, radiance, and acne prevention,” states David Bank, MD, a dermatologist in New York. Here are the top 10 foods that promote healthier skin which can easily be incorporated into your diet.

Chocolate: According to Dr. Bank, the cocoa in chocolate hydrates your skin, making it firmer and more supple. In addition, “Dark chocolate contains high levels of flavonols, a potent type of antioxidant,” adds Nicholas Perricone, MD, also a New York dermatologist. For maximum flavonol content, eat chocolate that’s at least 70% cacao. A couple squares a day should do the trick.

Yogurt: The protein from dairy products, such as yogurt, helps the skin become firmer and therefore more resistant to lines. Greek yogurt is especially beneficial since the protein content is often double that of regular yogurt. For smoother skin, just add a single serving of yogurt once a day to your diet.

Pomegranates: This miracle fruit is packed with polyphenol antioxidants which fight free radicals and regulate the skin’s blood flow, giving it rosiness. Eat one pomegranate or drink a couple glasses of pomegranate juice daily for healthier skin.

Walnuts: “Walnuts contain omega-3 essential fatty acids, which can improve skin’s elasticity,” Dr. Bank says. They are also loaded with copper (a mineral that boosts collagen production), so snack on a handful of walnuts each day for a smoother complexion.

Peppers: “Women who eat green and yellow vegetables regularly tend to have fewer wrinkles, especially around the eyes,” states Jessica Wu, MD, a dermatologist in Los Angeles. Studies have also found that carotenoids (the antioxidants in yellow and orange veggies) can decrease the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Two cups of peppers daily will go a long way for your skin.

Sunflower Seeds: These little guys are loaded with vitamin E and keep your skin supple by protecting its top layers from the sun. Incorporate about a handful into your diet everyday.

Kidney Beans: Studies indicate a correlation between blemishes and low zinc levels. Because kidney beans are high in zinc, by eating them often, you will benefit from zinc’s many healing properties. One 4-ounce serving a few times a week is a great way to promote healthy skin.

Soy: By adding one cup of soy milk or a handful of edamame a day to your diet, you may get a clearer complexion. “Soy contains minerals and proteins that have been shown to reduce hyperpigmentation,” Dr. Bank says.

Steel-Cut Oatmeal: Oats are very healing to the skin, especially steel-cut oats which are less processed than other varieties and contain more vitamins. “Plus, it takes longer to break down in your body, which helps keep your blood sugar stable. This is important because studies found that spiked blood sugar elevates your body’s level of androgens, hormones than can contribute to wrinkles,” states Dr. Wu.

Green Tea: Loaded with antioxidants, green tea is an excellent product proven to reduce redness and inflammation. Drink one cup a day for a balanced complexion.

New Year, New You: Treat Yourself!

As we say goodbye to 2016 and welcome a new year, we get an opportunity to tackle that list of New Year’s Resolutions. Assuming you’ve already got the normal to-do’s on your list (exercise more, eat healthier, drink less, etc., etc.), why not also include treating yourself with a healthy new skin care regiment? Sure it can be considered “pampering”, but it’s all about giving your skin the proper maintenance it requires. You take your car in for service every few months, right? Doesn’t your skin deserve the same kind of treatment? Yes, it does. Here’s why…

By the time a woman reaches 30 years old, she will lose roughly 1.5 percent of the skin’s natural collagen. By the age of 40, that number goes up to fifteen percent! When collagen decreases, the skin becomes thinner, less elastic and supple. This is what leads to wrinkles, sagging, and a rougher texture.

The benefits to skin care maintenance cannot be underestimated. By incorporating a healthy skin care regiment into your routine, your skin will continue to look youthful, and better yet, those evasive corrective procedures will be limited. So this year, pamper yourself - even if it’s the kind of pampering you do at home when the kids are at school or away at a friend’s house. Treat yourself with the gift of relaxation and give your mind, body, and spirit the boost it needs every now and then to refresh.

Our line of collagen skin care products replaces lost collagen in the skin and can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, promote smoother skin, restore elasticity, and keep the skin hydrated. For more information, please email or  give us a call!
